RULES INTERPRETER PAGE - H.S. GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL

On this page, you will find messages, items, and references from the Rules Interpreter and other contributors to help you better understand the NFHS rules and mechanics as administered in the State of New York and Section 3 of the NYSPHSAA for Boys High School Football and Girl's Flag Football.

The slides used at each weekly meeting can be downloaded by going to the MEETING SCHEDULE page and clicking on the date of the meeting.  The slides themselves contain links to external films and other content.

PLAYOFFS

  • During all playoffs - sectional, regional, and states, the official ball must be a Spalding ball which conforms to the rule as stated in the 2025 NYSPHSAA Girls Flag Football Rules: pebble-grained leather or rubber covered and shall be of youth size.

  • Players using a sticky substance on their gloves, etc... is illegal.

  • Playoffs will involve overtime.  Reiterate to your officials that NYSPHSAA GFF overtime rules are different than NFHS Fall Football.  The notable differences are:

    • Periods, Time Factors, Substitutions

      • B.  All Overtime Periods are played toward the same goal line.

      • C.  If the defense intercepts a pass or fumble, they can return it for a touchdown.
